Chris Gradwell - Clarinet / Sax
Hilary Boxer - Cello
Andrew Daldorph - Piano
The
Beare Trio was formed in 2003 to pursue all three
members' love of chamber music. The particular combination
(clarinet/sax, cello and piano) came about as a result of
friendships developed through the musicians' involvement as
professional players in the Devon music scene. The name derives
from "Kentisbeare", the mid-Devon village where
Hilary Boxer lives, which is where the group reherses and
gave their first concert.
The trio has developed programmes which are a mixture of
Jazz and Classical music. These typically include some of
the best chamber music that Brahms ever wrote, Jazz numbers,
unusual in their inclusion of the cello, and one or two original
compositions. Audiences in South West villages and towns have
particularly enjoyed the variety of playing styles and infomal
chat.
Hilary Boxer is an associate
of the Guildhall College of Music, London, and although now
based in the South West, has freelanced with professional
orchestras in London and Glasgow. She now plays with several
groups including the Western Symphonia, Phoenix Ensemble and
her own duo, Justwo. She is the cellist in the Bartholemew
Quartet, co-founded the Beare Trio, and has been involved
in spearheading ideas for mixed genre concerts for the last
5 years. Hilary now teaches privately, plays with her ensembles
and freelances widely around the South West.
Andrew Daldorph, graduated
with a first class honours degree from the University of Southampton
in 1973. He took up the post of organ scholar at Guildford
Cathedral and subsequently gained Fellowship of the Royal
College of Organists. Andrew took lessons from some of the
country’s most eminent organists including Peter Hurford,
David Hill, David Sanger and Dame Gillian Weir. Andrew has
studied harpsichord under David Woolley. He frequently gives
recitals and has played for concerts and services in concert
halls and cathedrals throughout the country.
Chris Gradwell is an associate
of the Royal Academy of Music and has freelanced with all
the London orchestras, especially the London Symphony, Royal
Philharmonic and National Philharmonic. Since
moving to Devon five years ago, Chris plays with The Beare
Trio with Hilary Boxer and Andrew Daldorph, Le Jazz, The Little
Big Band and AJ's Big Band. He is always exited by good music
but especially the classical repertoire, and the Jazz Classic
